HAWKESBURY RURAL FIRE SERVICE
CODE OF CONDUCT

Code Of Conduct

It shall be your duty to uphold the good name and repute of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service by making every possible effort to present, at all times, oneself as a responsible, polite and professional member of the Service.

There shall be no consumption of alcohol or taking of any drugs (unless prescribed by a doctor) whilst involved in firefighting duties, or any other Brigade activities.

No member shall make representation to the media in regard to any issues relating to the Rural Fire Service, unless so authorised.

Any member of the Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service attending any Official function and representing the Brigade/District will dress in neat attire or appropriate uniform.

It is your responsibility to refrain from entering into any conflict with the Public and/or any member of the Rural Fire Service and any other Emergency Organisation, whilst on the fire ground, or at any operational incident, or at any combined Brigade function. Any such dispute must be deferred to a suitable time and place unless it is considered to be an issue of SAFETY.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the correct procedures are followed to resolve any complaints or issues that may arise regarding the Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service or any of the Brigades from within the District.

Procedure For Resolving Conflict, Complaints or Issues.

Any member of a Brigade or support group who has conflict, complaints, or any issues that relate to the Brigade or District shall adopt the following procedure:

1. At an appropriate time raise the matter with the other member/s concerned in a mature and sensible manner (trying to resolve the issue)

2. If the matter is not settled then a clear complaint shall be made to the Captain and the Captain shall be responsible for the satisfactory resolution of the issue.

3. If the matter still cannot be resolved then an official complaint, in writing, shall be forwarded to the Fire Control Officer. The Fire Control Officer shall then be responsible for the satisfactory resolution of the complaint

It is a policy of the Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service that the conflict, complaints or any issue not be pursued other than as shown above. The complainant or any other member shall not raise the matter or involve any other organisation, Council, Councillors or individuals in this dispute whilst you remain a member of the Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service.

No correspondence will be entered into with any other Fire District, Regional Office, Head Office, Authority, Council or Councillor/s without first notifying The Fire Control Officer.
